the advantages of using manufacuring boards are that it will not move as it has know mosture in it and can be quite a bit stronger then normal wood.
mdf (medium density fibre board) - is held together with PVA glueand it is comprest in a press and left to dry and will blunten your saw
plywood - has veneers put at 90 degree angles to each other.
veneers there are 2 types of veneers squar and rotery.
chip board - chip board is made up of bigger wood chips then mdf but it is still held together with PVA and will blunten your saw.
this all comes in thinknesses of 3 - 6 - 9 -12 - 15 -18 - 21 -24mm
and in lenths of 2240mm
and in heights of 1120mm
